3 My CMT Journey continues...
The
NYC doctors recommended I go to a specialist out on Long Island. So
mom made an appointment at St Charles Hospital in Pt Jefferson about
a 45 minute ride from our home in Lindenhurst. The usual poking and
prodding. “Lift you foot, hold it don't let me push down.”From
the physician examining me. In the most common kinds of
Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease or CMT, symptoms may include; foot
deformity and foot drop (inability to hold foot horizontal). (CMTA
What is CMT).
When the doctor consulted my mom, he mentioned about it being
hereditary. CMT, is a group of inherited disorders that affect the
peripheral nerves, which are the nerves outside the brain and spinal
cord. The most common forms of CMT are passed down from one
generation to the next, meaning that it is dominantly inherited. My
dad was the one who I inherited CMT from. I was around 11 when I first visited St Charles Hospital. To be continued.....If you
feel led to give any donations for researching a cure, you can give
online at
